The Global Poker Awards function never had a fixed venue to begin with and was held at the PokerGO Studios in Las Vegas in 2019 and 2020. But it was decided later that the Studio will be the location for the next three editions of the awards program.
Eric Danis, the President of the Global Poker Index and Hendon Mob organization stated, “We are honored to be a part of celebrating the accomplishments of the most renowned figures in the poker industry.” He also said, “After having to cancel this year’s ceremony due to the pandemic, we are excited to welcome the poker world once again to the Global Poker Awards in March 2022 and for years to come.”
Apart from highlighting the crowned Poker Player of the Year at the yearly Global Poker Awards, the Female Poker Player of the Year is also given recognition. The other awards handed out during the ceremony are for Best Tournament, the Players Choice Award for Best All-Around Poker Player and the Poker ICON award (a Lifetime Achievement Award).
During the announcement, Mori Eskandani, the President of PokerGO said, “The Global Poker Awards recognize and celebrate the most elite poker players and significant figures making a notable difference in the industry.”
Behind the scenes of Global Poker Awards:
The Global Poker Awards go back to 2019 when the European Awards and American Poker Awards were combined into a singular entity.
Launched in 2015, the American Poker Awards lasted for 4 years before it merged with the European version of the event. It was hosted by Kara Scott at the beginning and then by Lynn Gilmartin. European Poker Awards had a much richer history than the American Poker Awards. European Poker Awards had an extensive 15-year history prior to the awards handed out in 2016.
There won’t be a Global Poker Award show in 2021 but at least we will have a series of events reserved to merit such accolades.
