Doyle Brunson aka ‘Texas Dolly’ came across a tweet listing down the most talented poker players of all time and had a few things to say about the list. While the topic itself is subjective, Brunson wanted to express what he thought about it.
Posted on Twitter by Remko Rinkemas, the tweet read, ‘Top 10 Most Talented Poker Players of All Time.’ Rinkemas list had poker pro Phil Ivey at the top with Stu Ungar in second spot. Other well-known players like Daniel Negreanu, Fedor Holz, Tom Dwan etc. were also part of the listing. Even Brunson made it to the list in the tenth position.

However, Brunson disagreed with the list and tweeted, ‘Bring the players into Bobby’s Room. See how they do with untalented guys like Rast, Siever, Angry, Johnny World, Ray D, Oppie, and any other regular. #7 should be #1.’ The mention of Bobby’s Room alludes to the fact that almost everyone on the list made their name from playing heads-up cash of live tournaments. The exception would be Reese and Brunson who are well-known throughout the industry considering they’ve been around for decades.

The tweet also placed Chip Reese in the seventh position who Brunson thought should be number one. This doesn’t come as a surprise, given that Reese is a long-time friend and rival of Brunson. One big problem area for a list like this is the fact that, it’s difficult to know how hard players are working on their game.
Like Daniel Negreanu states, “Talent, the way I define it comes from creativity and abstract thinking. The ability to problem solve intuitively rather than be given the answers then study the correct answers for next time. The latter is simply hard work.”
Many poker experts have different opinions on who tops the best poker player list. But then again, we can always take the best from each player who’s made it to the hall of fame by sheer hard work.
