Debashis Bal leads 29 in WPT India 35k SuperStack

Last year, it was Abhishek Jalan who emerged victorious in the 35k SuperStack Event for a career-best INR 17,29,000. This year, World Poker Tour (WPT) returned for its third edition in India and we had 168 entries registering to the 35k SuperStack Event, which was slightly less than the 215 entries that participated in 2018.

Quite a few notables were seen in the field and as the tournament progressed, many of them busted including Adda52 Celebrity Pro Minissha Lamba, Sahil Agarwal, Ayush Garg, Maria Kirloskar and many others. Just like in the first event, the top 21 players will be paid out from the prize pool, each receiving a min-cash of INR 72,030.

A hefty prize of INR 14,70,440 has been reserved for the winner and right now, Debashis Bal looks to be in the driver’s seat to go on and ship the event. He was leading since halfway through the day and when play halted, he was still the chip leader with 437,000 chips among the final 29 players. Earlier this year, Bal won the Burn N Turn Event at DPT Express in Sikkim too.

While the rest are a bit distant, Vaibhav Sharma is close behind Bal currently, with a chip stack of 431,000. Sharma has also been enjoying a good run in live poker, last month finishing third in the IPC High Roller in Goa for a career-best prize of INR 20,89,900. He’ll be looking to take the chip lead early on Day 2, which begins at 2pm today at the Deltin Royale Casino in Goa.
