Connor Drinan lost $1 million buy-in event with Pocket Aces!

The 51st annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) was about to kick off yesterday, 27 May 2020 and the entire new year, we were looking forward to the richest poker festival which has an immense history and greatest tales to share. As this could have been the WSOP season and players all around the globe would have gone haywire, lets go back 6 years from now and cherish an incredibly hit story!

This hand from the WSOP Big One for One Drop, which aired on ESPN is without a doubt the worst bad beat in the history of poker! So, imagine now paying millions of dollars to enter a room full of poker fans only to lose with pocket Aces?! While you are thinking hard, Connor Drinan is actually living with this memory. Unbelievable?

Connor Drinan suffered what one ESPN announcer said “might be the worst bad beat in the history of tournament poker” at a $1 million buy-in WSOP event. Poker pro Drinan who quite recently won 5th SCOOP title had gone viral after video coverage of his elimination. Now you may wonder, what’s that all about. Let’s be more specific, how about getting a worst beat right in front of the audience after being dealt Pocket Aces? But that’s not it, Drinan held tightly to his cards only to run into another pocket aces of his opponent Cary Katz!

Connor with Ad Ac against Katz’s Ah As and had only 2% chance to losing the hand before the flop after the board opened 2d Kh 5d. But another 4h on the turn. There was now 20% chance that Katz would make a flush on the river. And what are the odds? 2h on the river finished the game then and there with Katz taking home $15.38 million. (Let that sink in for a moment). “A million-dollar tournament and Drinan is out with aces against aces!” the commentary team exclaimed.

For what it’s worth, Drinan’s hand might not have been the worst beat ever in the history of $1 million buy-ins at the WSOP. There have been only two such events. Back in 2012, Mikhail Smirnov mucked quad eights because he thought his opponent held the exact cards needed for a straight flush. Turns out Smirnov’s opponent never revealed what he had.
