Casinos integral to Goa tourism: Sanjay Dutt

Over the weekend, there was the spectacular launch event of the new Big Daddy Casino in Goa’s River Mandovi, where Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and other celebrities were present. Touted as Asia’s largest offshore casino vessel, Big Daddy is a renovated version of another casino which operated in the river earlier. Get a first look into the casino here.

In a recent interview with Panaji reporters, Dutt was quoted to have said that casinos play a very important role in boosting tourism in the coastal state of Goa. While some of the best casinos are located in other gambling destinations across the world, he praised the existing gaming set up in Goa.

He said, “Casinos play a big role in tourism. People go to Macau, they go to Vegas, but it is beautiful to see something like this in India.” However, Dutt mentioned that he himself doesn’t prefer gambling in casinos. “I just like to be at the bar and watch others play,” he added.

The gaming and casino set up in Goa is a continuous matter of discussion and controversy, with new developments every month or so. Very recently, the casinos were granted a 6-month extension to operate in the river. However, the opposition party was quick to slam the BJP government for allowing this extension.

Someone like Sanjay Dutt was a huge standing and fan following in India and his comments on Goan casinos will make lawmakers rethink their policies regarding the same. The actor is famous for several hits over the years including Vaastav, Munnabhai and the very recent biopic, Sanju.
