Badziakouski gets back-to-back Triton Main Event titles

The guarantees and first-place prizes in global poker tournaments keep rising by the day!

A few years ago, it was mostly only the World Series of Poker that players waited for each year. They flew down to Las Vegas in search of annual big scores, but the scenario has changed a bit over the years, especially for the High Rollers. Now, quite a few tournaments and series are being hosted with huge prizes up for grabs, and million-dollar buy-in tournaments aren’t unheard-of anymore.

One such series is the Triton Super High Roller Series. As the name suggests, the series involves some seriously high stakes, but the pay-outs are equally high too. Just a few minutes ago, the Triton SHR series concluded in Jeju, South Korea. It was the Triton SHR’s second stop of the year, after a successful series in Montenegro in May this year.

The happiest man in the world after this grand series will be poker pro from Belarus, Mikita Badziakouski, who shipped the Triton SHR Jeju Main Event for an enormous prize amount of HKD 41,250,000 (~$5.25 million), which became one of the biggest individual prizes of the year so far.

For Badziakouski, this would be a very special win apart from the prize money as he also shipped the Triton SHR Main Event in Montenegro earlier this year, for HKD 19,618,400 ($2,499,185). He was already the richest poker player from Belarus by a long way and has now extended that lead. He has over $16.6 million in live cashes as compared to the next best’s $3.3 million.

He was not in the top 100 in the all-time poker earnings list at the start of the year, but has now jumped into the top 30 and he is a serious contender whenever a high-stakes tournament takes place. He also finished 5th in the HKD 1 million Short Deck tournament a couple of days back for HKD 4,620,000 ($588,692).

In this tournament, he beat Malaysia’s Chan Wai Leong in heads-up, who took home the runners-up prize of HKD 25,520,000 ($3,251,184). Leong was short on chips and pushed the remainder of his 1,885,000 chips into the pot when he saw his pocket sixes. Badziakouski made the call with AQ and the board opened A 7 10 5 2, giving the latter the win with a pair of Aces. Sam Greenwood wasn’t able to maintain his chip lead from yesterday, busting in 4th.

Final pay-outs:

  1. Mikita Badziakouski – HKD 41,250,000 (~INR 35.99 crore)
  2. Chan Wai Leong – HKD 25,520,000
  3. Richard Yong – HKD 16,720,000
  4. Sam Greenwood – HKD 11,550,000
  5. Jason Koon – HKD 8,470,000
  6. Sergio Aido – HKD 6,490,000
