Baadshah Gaming is First to Restrict Gujarat Players

Baadshah Gaming is an online gaming website that specializes in the likes of online poker, rummy and fantasy cricket games. As part of its brand activities, the company recently hosted the Baadshah Gaming Live poker tournament series at the Casino Pride in Goa.India’s first WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant went onto outlast the 66 player field to take down the Main Event title.

Earlier this month, the Indian poker industry took a major hit with the Gujarat High Court ruling that poker is not a game of skill, but a form of gambling. Hence, the game was deemed as illegal in the state and Baadshah Gaming came into the limelight, becoming the first online poker website to restrict players from the state of Gujarat.

The order of the Gujarat High Court came on 4th December in the Dominance Games Pvt. Ltd. & Others vs State of Gujarat & Others case, and Baadshah Gaming decided to comply by the laws of the land, putting up a message on the homepage of their website, which clearly asked players from Gujarat not to play on their website.

Here’s what the message read:

“URGENT NOTICE FOR RESIDENTS OF GUJARAT: As per the recent judgment of Gujarat High Court dated 04.12.2017 in the case of Dominance Games Pvt. Ltd. & Ors. vs State of Gujarat & Ors., the residents of Gujarat are not allowed to play Poker on our platform. We request the players residing in the state of Gujarat and/or accessing the website from Gujarat not to play Poker on our website.”

The Gujarat HC had earlier ruled that skill games that involve betting and wagering will be termed as gambling activities. Baadshah Gaming was the first among Indian poker websites to ban Gujarat players and we will have to wait and see if any other websites follow their footsteps.
