9Stacks is a reputed online poker platform in India, hosting many feature tournaments throughout the week. Their Sunday Stacks, the feature tourney of Sunday is a popular one, having high guarantees.
Yesterday’s Sunday Stacks tournament had a guaranteed prize pool of INR 10 Lakhs and a buy-in of INR 5,500. There were 175 entries, out of which 36 were re-buys and the top 25 players being paid. The tournament started at around 5 pm.
Amar Mehta, aka ‘Buddha’, was the crowned champion of this tourney, taking home first place cash money of INR 2,55,000. Hard luck for Arsh Grover, who was on a hat-trick this time, winning the previous two back-to-back Sunday Stacks on 9Stacks. Mehta won the heads-up against Mohini Singh aka ‘DevilFish With almost all the online tournament entries being male, it’s a welcome change to see a woman participate and almost ship the tourney! She took home INR 1,75,000.
Mehta had a good run last month too, winning a title in PokerBaazi’s PPL Autumn Edition Event of INR 10 Lakhs GTD and cashing in four out of five tournaments on a single day there. This pushed him to the top of the PPL Leaderboard, but Akshay Nasa eventually finished top on the leaderboard.
Gutshot caught up with Mehta after his win and he was quite satisfied with 9Stacks, saying “I have been playing a lot of tournaments on 9Stacks recently due to the amazing promotions they have. Sundays are always special, and it’s a great feeling to take Sunday Stacks down for a good pay day.”
Commenting about his gameplay, he said, “I got off to a good start and was among the top 20 stacks for the first 2-3 hours of play. My strategy was to keep it simple, apply pressure in spots and keep chopping up steadily. In the final table, I ran good in critical spots and kept the pressure on my opponents keeping the ICM in mind.”
