Alfie Poetra ships APT 2018 Finale PLO Hi

The Asia Poker League (APT) Finale began in Philippines at the Resorts World Manila on Nov 27th. The series has many exciting events lined up for a period of 11 days, with three events, APT-RWM Opening EventSuper High Rollers, and the PLO Hi, already declaring their crowned champions.

Out of the line-up of events, there was only one non-Hold’em event, the PLO Hi, which also saw its winner being announced yesterday. The event attracted 53 entries and each player coughed up PHP 16,500 (~INR 22,021) for the buy-in, creating a prize pool of PHP 771,000 (~INR 10.29 Lakhs).

The 1-day event paid out top 9 players. The Indonesian-American poker player Alfie Poetra emerged victorious at 1st place to lift the APT trophy for the first time. He took home a hefty PHP 231,300 (~INR 3.08 Lakhs) in prize money. He defeated the Australian player Anthony Abram in the heads-up round.

The final hand between Poetra and Abram was an interesting one. With the flop coming to 5c 10s 6h, Poetra was looking for a straight with his 10d 5h 8d 7h against Abram’s Kc Kd 2d 2s. The turn of Kh improved Abram’s position, giving him a set, but the river came to 9d and the Poker Gods gave Poetra what he wanted to ship the tourney. The bubble burst on Kai Paulsen when he went all in pre-flop looking for a nut flush draw against Romeo Dungca’s straight. Dungca finished at 5th place.

Poetra, a mid-stakes grinder till now, began his recorded his live poker career back in 2013, and has played in many tournaments in Las Vegas, once shipping the $184 NLH at the Rio Daily Deepstacks 2015 for $13,401. His best live cash though, is the $18,394 he won at the 2017 Goliath Phamous Poker Series in Las Vegas when he finished 12th. This new win will surely is a most awaited addition to his bankroll and enable him to play in more tournaments, something any budding poker player always looks for.

The Main Event of the APT Finale also began yesterday with India’s poker pro Aditya Sushant currently at 10th out of 45 survivors on Day 1A.
