Akash Gupta wins Spartan Sunday SuperStack

Yesterday, being the first Sunday of the month, Spartan Poker had its biggest weekly tournament on offer. Sunday also is a work-off day for most of the Indian players, so the turnouts are usually big. The platform also hosted 2.o.K, as it is hosted usually on the first Sunday of the month.

Sunday SuperStack INR 25 Lakhs GTD began yesterday at 7.30 pm and was in the books by 2.35 am today morning. The total field amounted to 540 entries (including 62 re-entries and 219 re-buys) and the top 40 places were paid with a min-cash of INR 16,200.

Akash Gupta aka ‘Akash0510’ finished on top of the field and bagged the title. He took home INR 7,15,500 as the first-place cash prize. He beat Pranjal Gandhi aka ‘lilmessipranjal’ in heads-up who settled for INR 4,45,500.

The final hand of the match began with Gupta holding an overwhelming chip lead of almost 3:1. It was just a matter of time, and that too not much, for him to bag the title. He proceeded to shove pre-flop with pocket Fives. Gandhi called with Queens. The board revealed 9s 9d 5s Ah Ts and gave a full house to Gupta, beating Gandhi’s Queens and Nines.

Gupta is a regular online grinder in the community and has seen major title wins previously. Gupta, just in this year, won the January IOPC’s DareDevil for a pay-check of INR 3.66 Lakhs. He bagged a PokerBaazi PPL title last December for a much greater amount. He is an up and coming player and will look to continue this winning trend in coming months.

The size of the field was vast and so was the glamour. Top pros of the community finished in the money. Some of them include Rubin Labroo aka ‘kornkid’ (5^th – INR 1,21,500),Tathagata Sengupta aka ’vegancannibal’ (11^th – INR 32,400), Eka Vedantham aka ‘gettingthere’ (25^th – INR 21,600) and Laksh Pal Singh aka ‘LuckyBhai$’ (26^th – INR 18,900).

Others include Sriharsha Doddapaneni aka ‘GTOsucks’ (27^th – INR 18,900), Anurag Srivastava aka ‘InvestmentBanker’ (28^th), Ashit Sharma aka ‘Loki19’ (30^th) and Siddarth Singhvi aka ‘PeterPunter’ (34^th).
