A Week Since Poker Player Jody Trainer Goes Missing in Canada

On 20 August, Abbotsford Police released a missing report on poker pro Jody Trainer. He was last seen  on the morning of Monday, 17 August and failed to return home as expected. A description of the poker player was released by the department, stating that “A 52 year old man, standing 6 feet tall (183cm), 165 pounds (75 kg), slim build, with green eyes and brown/grey hair and beard.” 

According to the police information, he was last seen driving a 2008 Red Cadillac CTS (BCLP Ha078G). It is not known what he was wearing at the time, and people have been instructed to share any information regarding his disappearance. The Canadian poker player has been playing both locally and internationally and been successful at live tournaments and online poker games.

Trainer’s breakout success came in 2006 with a 3rd place finish in the Paradise Masters Event in the Bahamas. He was also ranked the number one Canadian player during the World Championship of Online Poker held by Pokerstars (WCOOP) in 2007. That same year Jody was also named the Canadian Poker Tour player of the year for his success in live tournament play and was also featured on the front cover of Canadian Poker Player Magazine. Sadly his poker career came to a halt when a beer bottle exploded in front of his face. The surgery saved the Canadians eye but had serious effects on his eyesight. 

The past two months have been tough for the community, since this wasn’t the only disappearance reported. Brad Booth, a high stakes player, has been missing since 13 July. Last seen leaving the Grand Sierra Resort in a 2002 Silver Toyota Tacoma truck NV plates 601PMR. Brad told his roommate he was going camping however he took minimal items that would not sustain him for more than a day or two. Yet another saddening news for the gaming and poker industry was when the White Lake Township Police Department released the identity of a “badly burned” body. The body was later identified as Susie Zhao, a poker player from Waterford Township.
