7 Indians progress from Day 1B, 1C of TIPS Main Event

The Indian Poker Series (TIPS) Season 2 is underway at the Kings Resort in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. Organizers Manish Goenka and Jaydeep Dawer promised a bigger and better Season 2 and they weren’t wrong, as we have a Main Event with 6 starting flights. Three of them are over so far, having attracted a field of 603 entries and three flights are still pending.

The whole idea of this series is affordable buy-ins like those you can get in India and the Main Event too has a buy-in of €350 (~INR 27,500) with a whopping €500,000 (~INR 3.93 Crore) guarantee. Adding to the 179 entries from Day 1A, 254 and 170 entries were recorded on Day 1B and 1C respectively, both of which were played yesterday.

54 players survived from Day 1B and it was an Israeli player who emerged as the chip leader, as was the case on 1A. Israel’s Nisim Sun Charati ended up with a bag of 548,000 chips followed by India’s Jayant Ramkrishna Yewale (472,000), who has been having a good time in Rozvadov so far. Among the survivors was also India’s Gaurav Gupta, who bagged 263,000 chips.

Day 1C began soon later with the same buy-in and same number of levels played before we halted for the day. The field was comparatively smaller, with 170 entries signing up and from them, 37 progressed, making the total survivors count go up to 134. Day 1C was a very good one for the Indian contingent, with a total of 5 Indians getting a bag at the close of play.

Leading the chip counts is Belgium’s Dominique Potenza with a stack of 655,000, while the Indian effort was led by none other than Ankit Kapoor, who bagged 309,000 chips and ended as the 6th largest stack at the end of this flight. Kapoor has been enjoying a good time in live poker of late, very recently being crowned champion of the February 2019 DPT Main Event in Goa.

Other Indians in the field who managed to progress to Day 2 include Vinayak Bajaj (225,000), Sanjay Kandampully (224,000), Arjanveer Chadha (221,000), and Ashish Ahuja (218,000). Chadha and Ahuja are great friends off the tables, and they will be looking to take their online poker form into Day 2 of this Main Event as well.

Three starting flights remain, and we will be bringing you all updates from those flights at Kings Casino, Rozvadov, so stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com.
