Poker Dictionary – Ace-To-Five

Ace to five is a lowball variant where straights and flushes have no value, and the best possible hand is 5-4-3-2-A regardless of any suit. In this particular variant, Aces are considered to be the low cards. This hand is also referred to as a bicycle or wheel. A wheel is a slang for the five high straight.

When the ace is used in a straight, the placement of this card plays an important role. It is counted as high or low depending on which end of the straight it falls on. The best hand 7-5-4-3-2 is considered to be the best without a flush in Deuce-to-Seven Lowball. While in the Ace-to-Six Lowball game, 6-4-3-2-A is considered to be the best hand.

Ace to five triple draw is essentially the same game as Deuce to Seven Triple Draw but it has different hand rankings. Lowball draw is a one winner limit game so players must employ tight-aggressive gameplay. Grinders must always enter the pot with a raise and ensure that they should re-raise the pot for the player who entered before you. This ensures that it will increase the odds of getting a heads up on the pot.

How To Play Ace-Five Suited Preflop

This hand can be openly raised from any position owning its strength. A5s are too strong to fold and limping would never actually help you win any bigger pot.
When you are faced with a raise, A5s are perfect for 3-bet bluffing from all positions. This is mainly because the hand has high equity.
A5s do not have much showdown value, which makes it a great hand for semi-bluffing as you have outs to improve your hand to a flush or a straight.
