PlayStation 5: Gamers May Have to Wait Longer Than Expected

It’s been more than a year since  Sony launched its PlayStation 5 (PS5), but it remains elusive for most players. PlayStation fans have been eagerly waiting to get their hands on the latest console. However, it seems like fans may have to wait a bit longer than expected.

According to the latest Bloomberg report, Sony has reportedly stopped the production of PS5 owing to logistics and supply constraints. Sources suggest Sony has cut down the production of the console by over a million units. The decision was taken because logistics issues have considerably grown over the past few months.

In the Bloomberg report, Sony’s CFO Hiroki Totoki had reportedly told investors that Sony had to cut down the production of PS5 consoles from 16 million to 15 million units due to the shortage and logistics-related issues over the past few months. The sales were also affected due to unavailability issues. The sales figures also failed to meet the company’s expectations in Q3 2021. Even though  PS5 became the fastest-selling console that sold 10 million units, the sales figures soon fell behind the PS4 numbers.

With the holiday season approaching, the company may not be able to increase production in time. However, Sony is yet to release an official statement on this issue. Ever since the console was officially released it has been out of stock on several occasions.  PS5 was out of stock soon after its release and was re-stocked only several months later. It again ran off the shelves. The gaming console was recently re-stocked by the company on 25th October. Looking at the current scenario and the demand for PS5 consoles, it would be profitable for Sony if the company could resolve the logistics issue and ace up the production.
