Phil Galfond catches up quickly in the Galfond Challenge

It’s time to buckle up as the Galfond Challenge just got really interesting! A few weeks ago, the Run It Once founder was ready to throw in the towel after he suspended his heads-up challenge against his mystery challenger ‘VeniVidi1993’ bearing the terrible loss of over €900,000.

The three-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Galfond is still in a deep hole in the Galfond Challenge, but the good news is that Galfond decided to continue following a rocky start. Taking a few weeks off to clear his mind, that may have been one of his best decision he has made.

Immediately after the competition continued on 4 March, Galfond booked a massive win of €183,481. And ever since the challenge resumed, he has won eight out of 10 sessions for a net profit of €405,668, including his most recent score on Saturday of €139,485. Although ‘VeniVidi1993’ is still up overall through the 15,864 hands played between the two, Galfond has cut his deficit to less than €500,000. The official tally has ‘VeniVidi1994’ up €494,601.

Both players are scheduled to play 25,000 hands of €100- €200 PLO on Run It Once Poker. They still have got 9,136 hands to go and Galfond is really putting up once heck of a comeback. They two went on hiatus following the 15th session of the competition that took place of 9 February. Of the 15 sessions that were played, ‘VeniVidi1993’ had won 13 of them, including daily wins of €267,949. And ever since Galfond returned, they have played more than 10 sessions and Galfond has won eight of those 10. The break has worked miracle for Galfond and now will be needing an average winning of €45 per hand dealt.

Galfond has also declared that it remains “on” with most of the other players he had lined up for his challenge last year these battles include Luke Schwartz and high-stakes reg Bill Perkins. Each of the matches will be subject to hand-limit and a side-bet.
