PGT PLO Series Kicks Off With Record-Setting Prize Pool

The first-ever PGT PLO Series kicked off with a bang on Saturday, March 11, at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas. The opening event of the nine-tournament series set records for the number of unique entries and total entries in an owned-and-operated PGT event.

Event #1: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha drew a field of 200 total entries, including 140 unique players. That generated a prize pool of $1,000,000, with $160,000 sitting on top for the eventual winner to take home. With that prize pool, Event #1 of the PGT PLO Series became the largest prize pool for an owned-and-operated PGT event with a buy-in of $10,000 and under.

Daniyal Iqbal leads the final nine in the opening event. Iqbal grabbed the chip lead after eliminating Allen Shen late in the day. Iqbal bagged 4,645,000 to finish the day, putting him ahead of Peng Zheng who bagged 3,875,000, which was good for second place. Also making it through Day 1 were David Williams (2,380,000), Jeff Madsen (1,705,000), and Ethan “Rampage” Yau (1,040,000). The final nine players are guaranteed a $30,000 payday with $160,000 up top for the winner.

What Is the PGT PLO Series?

PGT PLO Series is a brand new series as part of the PokerGO Tour (PGT). The series features nine pot-limit Omaha tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $2,200 to $26,000. As part of the PGT, players are eligible to earn PGT leaderboard points for finishing in the money in PGT PLO Series events (Event #9 does not count as it does not meet the buy-in threshold).

There is a PGT PLO Series series leaderboard that ranks the players by points earned. The player to finish with the most points and top the leaderboard through all qualifying events will be crowned the first-ever PGT PLO Series champion and win the series’ $25,000 championship bonus.
