Pankaj Bhardwaj wins first live title – DPT 15k Bounty

With plenty of other live series scheduled in the next few months in Goa, the current edition of the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) is set to be the last of the year on board the luxurious Deltin Royale in River Mandovi. Yesterday was a busy day here as we saw a couple of tournaments coming to an end, including the 15k Deep Dive which was won by Pranay Mungekar.

The next event to conclude and declare a winner was the INR 15k Bounty Event and it beat the 120 entries that were recorded in the last edition of DPT. 167 entries joined here by the end of the late registration period and we had an accumulated prize pool of INR 7.4 Lakh.

Only the top 19 places were paid with a min-cash of INR 12,000 along with bounties worth INR 10,000 each. Once again, we had a relatively unknown player to emerge champion in Pankaj Bhardwaj, taking away INR 2.05 Lakh from the tournament prize pool along with around INR 60,000 from his bounties.

Bigger fields and new names taking part are brilliant for the overall poker industry in India and we can only expect this to get better in the months to come. Gaurav G was the bubble boy and some of the known names to cash in the event were Mihir Thakkar (14th for INR 15,000), Sanish Chhabra (17th for INR 13,000), and Siddarth Singhvi (19th for INR 12,000).

Another known pro Jayjit Ray hit the rail in 3rd place for heads-up to begin between Bhardwaj and Samsher Gandhi, with Bhardwaj having a 2:1 chip lead going into the heads-up session. In the final hand, Bhardwaj opened small with pocket Nines, his opponent decided to shove with A8 and unfortunately, didn’t get what he needed to beat Nines.
