Online Gambling Raid Gets Two Russians, One Ukrainian Arrested

The Goa police crime branch, headed by Inspector Nitin Halarnkar, raided a commercial area in Mandrem on Thursday after responding to an anonymous tip. The police busted an online gambling racket that was being allegedly run by two Russians and one Ukrainian, along with a few Indian citizens.

According to reports, the five individuals that were arrested were playing a card game of Texas Hold’em for money. However, this was not just a friendly game of poker between friends. It was alleged that the group was running an online gambling website which is now being analysed by forensic experts.

The five individuals involved in the game have been arrested among which are two Russians identified as Kirill Khadarin and Nikolei Balandin. Ukrainian Mykyta Atamanchuk, Prabhat Pingreja from Delhi, and Rajiv Dosani from Mumbai are the identities of the other three.

As per Nidhin Valsan, Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch), the suspects were exchanging money, gambling chips, coins, and other gambling-related items worth ₹1,21,050 while engaging in a game of Texas Hold’em.

Just this Tuesday, police also raided an apartment in Calangute and arrested four people engaged in operating an online gambling website. The police have seized approximately ₹2.5 Lakh between the two recent raids. Another similar raid case was reported a few months back when the Faridabad police had busted a similar online gambling operation and arrested five people involved.

According to the police, the identities of the accused were Dheeraj, Alok, Arun, Santu, and Chandresh which are all local residents who were arrested in a residential area. The five people were caught playing online games in an app called ‘PCM Client’ which was operated by Dheeraj. The other four had only come to play in his house. Two desktop computers, three laptops, and ₹67,500 in cash were seized in the online gambling raid.
