It was a good day at the office for New York poker pro Omar Saeed, who topped a field of 220 entries to win the Foxwoods Poker Classic, which was played at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, between 23rd and 26th March 2018. The $2,500 buy-in event saw the original prizepool of $400k being taken up to $490,820, where the top 24 players were paid out.
Saeed faced a field which consisted of several WPT champs and WSOP bracelet winners, but that didn’t deter him. He finally emerged victorious on Day 4 of the event, bagging his second six-figure score and second highest live poker payday of $119,270 for the first-place.
Saeed had once before won a mega stack event at the Foxwoods casino for $74k, while the highest live cash of his career came 6 years back at the 2012 WSOP Main Event, where he cashed $191,646 for 37th place. With this, he has taken his live poker earnings to over $600k and will also be looking forward to another deep run, come the 2018 WSOP Main Event.
He went into heads up against Curt Kohlberg, a well-established poker player who had many titles at this venue and well over $3 million in live poker cashes. However, this day was all Saeed’s, going into heads up with a 2:1 chip lead and managing to go all the way, denying Kohlberg another title at Foxwoods.
In what became the final hand, Saeed flopped a two-pair, and the turn or river didn’t provide Kohlberg’s top pair any further assistance. Final results:
