Nikhil Ramesh takes down IOPC Event #3

Yesterday was a great day for Indian online poker players as The Spartan Poker’s India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) kicked off yesterday, with 55 tournaments to be played between 13-22 July 2018 and a record-breaking INR 7+ crore to be won in guaranteed prizes during these ten days, making this India’s biggest online poker tournament series.

IOPC Event #3 INR 4 Lac GTD (880 RE) was the third tournament of the day and the series, and it started at 6pm IST. With a total of 763 entries registering to the tournament, the guarantee was crushed once again, and a new prize pool of INR 6,10,400 was created. This meant that the top 55 players could be paid out a minimum cash prize of INR 2,990.

After 7 hours and 47 levels of grinding, a winner was finally crowned in Nikhil Ramesh aka ‘rn275’, who walked away with a handsome top prize of INR 1,18,417, while Pankaj Sharma aka ‘chalhatbe’ took the runners-up position for a prize of INR 75,079. Remember, chalhatbe is a regular online grinder, having won The Daredevil tournament on Spartan just last month.

The blinds were running at 40,000/80,000 – 10,000 when the final hand was played between these two players. Having reached a massive chip lead of 17:1, it was only a matter of time before Nikhil would win. He shoved all-in with K-7 and chalhatbe called with J-Q, as the board opened 8-4-10-2-10 and both players didn’t improvise. There was a pair of Tens on the board and Nikhil took down the pot with a higher kicker – King.

Gutshot caught up with Nikhil Ramesh after the win. The poker player is recent graduate. “I started playing poker in college with friends, then moved over to online cash games. I started playing tournaments about a year back,” he said about his introduction to poker.

“The event was quite fun with a huge player pool. Managed to get lucky in some of the flips and ran good from there. I plan to play poker recreationally one way or the other and don’t intend to stop. I also plan to play a lot of the IOPC events and find out where I stand among the pool,” he said about the tournament and about playing the rest of the series.

He won the first 6-figure score in this edition of the India Online Poker Championship and won vital points that took him to the top of the IOPC Leaderboard. Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for daily updates on this tournament series and the various tournament winners.
