Michael Wang Clinches Stairway To Millions Event #5 For $219,300


Michael Wang clinched one of his career’s biggest titles at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner shipped Event #5 of the Stairway to Millions Series hosted at the ARIA Resort and Casino. The $15,800 buy-in event was a No-Limit Hold‘em tournament and Wang took home $219,300 in prize money.

As event #5 concluded, there are only two more tournaments remaining before the $102,000 buy-in tournament kicks off on 19th January. The Stairway to Millions tournament series started on 12th January and will conclude on 20th January. All the top six players that made the money in event #5 received a free entry into the $25,100 buy-in Event #6.

When the final table was set Wang had entered with a chip lead and did not lose his advantage despite the tough competition. Among his competitors were high roller experts Stephen Chidwick and Sean Winter. After he eliminated Winter, Chidwick, Vikenty Shegal, and Bill Klien, Wang went heads up with Larry Greenberg with a huge chip lead (4: 1).

On the final hand, Greenberg went all-in preflop with hole cards which was called by Wang who had . The board then opened   and Wang won the pot with his two-pair (AA,QQ). This put Greenberg in the runner-up position and he walked away with $135,450 in prize money.

Wang won his first WSOP bracelet in 2015 in a $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Event where he pocketed 466,120 in prize money. He currently has a lifetime live tournament earnings worth $3,505,855. His other big cashes also include the Hollywood Poker Open in Las Vegas where he finished in 2nd for $216,904 and the 2015 PaddyPower Irish Open in Dublin where he finished 3rd for €111,750.
