Kunal Bhatia wins Sunday SuperStack on Spartan

Sundays are always amazing on The Spartan Poker, with several high guarantee tournaments taking place. Earlier today, we reported news of ‘InvestmentBanker’ winning the INR 5 lakh GTD Big Daddy tournament and taking home INR 96,500 plus a package trip to Goa worth INR 30,000.

Another big tournament that took place yesterday was Spartan’s Sunday SuperStack tournament, with a promised prize pool of INR 20 lakh. However, the INR 5,500 buy-in tournament saw a good participation of 470 registered entries and this took the prize pool up to INR 23.5 lakh.

The tournament began at 8:30pm IST last evening and went on for nearly 8 hours, until it was shipped by Kunal Bhatia aka ‘Alex52’ in the early hours of today morning. The prize pool was divided among the top 40 players with a min-cash of INR 14,100, and Bhatia walked away with the biggest prize of all – INR 6,22,750.

The tournament ended in Level #54, with blinds running 80,000/160,000 – 20,000, and Bhatia had a 3.5:1 chip lead before what became the final hand. Bhatia was playing ‘sasikiranx’ in heads-up and the latter went all-in pre-flop, which Bhatia called. Bhatia held Ks-5s, while sasikiranx held 2d-5c and with the board opening 9s-9h-3s-6d-2s, Bhatia completed a K-high flush on the river.

That was all he needed to win the pot, with his opponent only managing a pair of twos. Along with the title, Bhatia took home over six lakh rupees while sasikiranx settled for a decent second-place prize of INR 3,87,750. The winner was unavailable to comment on this big victory.
