Kartik Ved Misses WPC ME Title, Takes The 2nd Spot


The World Poker Championship (WPC) 2022 Main Event (ME) hosted at Hanoi’s Grand Loyal concluded with Vietnam’s Ha Manh Tuong clinching the title for VN₫ 3.2B ~US$ 136,069. Indian pro Kartik Ved who entered the final table (FT) as the chip lead. Ved entered the FT with the biggest stack of 9,000,000 chips. 

This much awaited event had 1,020 entries which boiled down to the final eight players. Tuong had the third highest chip stack when FT began. The WPC ME had an impressive prize pool of VN₫ 17,809,200,000 (~US $751,126). The lion’s share went to the title winner with the runner-up (Kartik Ved) taking the $84,352 in prize money.

Ved was not the only Indian pro who made it to the WPC ME FT. Deepak Bothra was second-last in chips with a stack of 2,000,000 when he entered the FT. Bothra exited the tournament at the seventh spot with a pay cheque of $20,244. The event had a buy-in of VN₫ 20,000,000 (~US $843) with a guaranteed prize pool of VN₫ 8,000,000,000 (~US $338,087).

Talking about the WPC ME, this tournament had four starting day flights. Take a look at the break up of survivors from the starting flights to the ME. 

  • Day 1A – 187 entries
  • Day 1B – 292 entries
  • Day 1C – 356 entries
  • Day 1D Turbo – 185 entries

With Ved and Bothra on the FT, all eyes from the Indian poker circuit were on the two players. Even though the WSOP Online bracelet winner was not able to clinch the ME title, he sure had a dream run in the event.
