Monday Nitro INR 8 Lakh GTD is a weekly featured tournament held on Spartan Poker, being introduced barely around a month ago. Played every Monday evening at 7:30pm, it’s slowly becoming popular among daily Spartan grinders, yesterday attracting a total field of 354 entries.
Of these, 160 were unique players, 63 were re-entries and 131 were re-buys. By the end of the registration period, the prizes were calculated and a total of 31 places were to be paid out with a min-cash of INR 7,040. Karan Kapoor aka ‘karancooper’ turned out victorious last night, firing 2 bullets on his way to claiming the top prize of INR 1,69,200.
Before Kapoor was crowned champion, quite a few known names fell out on the way, bagging smaller cash prizes. Some of these were recent Adda52 Mega Suits winner Siddarth Singhvi (28th), Ram Kakkar (24th), Sahil Mahboobani (17th), Siddhanth Kapoor (15th), Aditya Sushant (9th), and Dhawal Lachhwani (3rd).
However, only the top two places were paid 6-digit prizes and more. It was Karan Kapoor up against ‘rakeshguru’ in heads-up and they were almost similarly stacked before the final hand too – Kapoor had 1.95 million chips while his opponent had 1.58 million chips.
It was Level #45 of the tournament when they decided to put an end to it, with the blinds at 24k/48k – ante 3.5k. Here, Kapoor went all-in pre-flop with Kc Ac while his opponent made the call with 3d Ad. The board fired blanks for both players, rolling out Qs 9d 4h Js 5s and giving Kapoor the title with just an A-high hand and a higher kicker – K.
Talking to Gutshot about this victory, Kapoor said, “Poker in India is still different from western countries. Here, people still play it like Indian Teen Patti and winning here requires equal mix of both skill and luck. So, my Monday Nitro win is just a combo of that.”
