Julius Lagman wins APT Philippines Opening Event

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) kicked off their latest tournament series in Philippines, scheduled between 13-24 September 2018. It was their second stop at Philippines this year and the series is being played out at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Philippines.

The series began with the APT Philippines Opening Event and this turned out to be a brilliant one, with a thunderous field of 319 entries registering to the tournament. The 2-day event took place and at the end of it all, it was local Filipino player Julius Lagman who ended victorious.

Lagman dominated this field to take away the APT Opening Event trophy to go with PHP 584,600 (~INR 7.84 lakh) in hard cash. It would’ve been a Deja vu moment for Lagman, who interestingly also won the same tournament two years ago. He was extremely short stacked initially but did well to come back and win the trophy.

54 players were ensured a piece of the prize pool and among them was one Indian player in Amanpreet Singh, who finished 37th from this field for a prize of PHP 18,800 (~INR 25,200). As for Lagman, this became his second-best live score after ~$18,200 he scored for winning this tournament in 2016.

The final table was dominated by players from Philippines except for Japan’s Ito Shinya who finished second, after also having a short stack earlier in the tournament. They both ended up taking away top honours. Later in the series, Lester Edoc won the CoinPoker Super High Rollers tournament, while he is also running very deep in the ongoing APT Main Event.

Final table results:

  1. Julius Lagman – PHP 584,600
  2. Ito Shinya – PHP 389,900
  3. Alexis Lim – PHP 272,200
  4. Martin Corpuz – PHP 198,200
  5. Renniel Galvez – PHP 149,800
  6. Redentor Edoc – PHP 117,100
  7. Alvin Francisco – PHP 94,300
  8. Moses Saquing – PHP 78,000
