Joseph Hebert Wins Domestic Leg of WSOP Main Event 2020

The 2020 WSOP Main Event crowned Joseph Hebert as the winner for the domestic leg of the series. The first two days of the Main Event was held online after which the final table of eight players was held live at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. There were initially supposed to be nine final players, but Upeshka De Silva tested positive for COVID-19 and was disqualified according to the tournament rules, read the story here.

Hebert fought through a field of 705 players to claim a seat at the final table. With De Silva, a three-time WSOP bracelet champion, out of the picture, the final eight battled it out for the $1,553,256 top prize. Hebert will now be going head-to-head with Damian Salas, the winner for the international leg of the WSOP held at GGPoker.

This is an amazing achievement for the 38-year-old Hebert, considering he got into the tournament through a $300 satellite on WSOP. Entering the final table with a massive chip lead, the poker player’s win will give him a shot at adding another one million to his name. Commenting on his achievement, Hebert stated, “I was just really confident and excited to play. It was a battle and not an easy one. All the guys played to their best ability.”

Adding a bit of a personal touch to his win, Hebert revealed that he was doing it for his mom, Linda, who passed away earlier this year due to a pulmonary embolism. One of the last texts that Hebert sent his mom was of his hope to win a WSOP bracelet. To which his mom replied that things would eventually work out. Judging by his win, it seems like Hebert has his mom looking over.

“I really felt like I was dreaming. I thought about my mom and just knew that she was there. This win was for her. She would have been so excited to see it,” a teary-eyed Hebert commented. The final heads-up match of Hebert vs. Salas will take place on 3 January 2021. The winner of this match will be crowned as the ultimate champion of the 2020 WSOP Main Event.
