Joseph Cheong finally wins a WSOP bracelet; ships Event #34

For someone who had over $13 million in live poker cashes until a day back, it was hard to believe that USA’s Joseph Cheong aka ‘subiime’ never tasted any success at the World Series of Poker (WSOP). However, he finally got the monkey off his back today, winning in Las Vegas and bagging his first ever WSOP gold bracelet.

We’re talking about Event #34: $1,000 Double Stack No-Limit Hold’em at the 50th WSOP series in Vegas, where our Indian players also did well, including Ashish Ahuja who ran deep and finished 15th. It was Cheong himself who eliminated Ahuja and the former ended Day 4 with a massive chip lead among the final 6 players.

His victory seemed likely and he didn’t waste too much time on Day 5 of the tournament, winning and adding a massive amount of $687,782 to his poker bankroll. This was a much-deserved victory for the player who has been playing at the WSOP since ages and has $6+ million in earnings here, including a 3rd place finish in the 2010 WSOP Main Event.

With plenty of titles and trophies to his name from Las Vegas itself, this is surely going to be among one of his best wins, beating 6,000+ entries to the title. However, he wasn’t too nervous coming into the final day of play, saying, “Me and my friends shared a bottle of wine, I slept really late, yep, that was my preparation.”
