Jonas Lauck wins Event #56, Team Geiger wins Tag Team Event

Event #56: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Super Turbo Bounty

When you manage to execute 7 of the 8 eliminations on the Final Table of a poker tournament, there are high chances that you emerge winner of the tournament. If you do the same at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), you will be walking away much richer along with a prestigious gold bracelet.

That’s what German pro Jonas Lauck did in Event #56 of WSOP 2019, beating a field of 1,867 entries and wrapping up the Super Turbo Event after nearly 16 hours of play on a single day itself. It was his maiden bracelet win and he also pocketed $260,335 in prize money to go with bounties worth $500 each.

“I guess one of the biggest [achievements], for sure. It wasn’t the biggest cash, but the bracelet is a big achievement that I wanted to have. For me, it was a special win because I was once heads-up and I lost. I wanted to have this bracelet, and it feels very good,” said Lauck after beating Robert Bickley in heads-up and winning the tournament.

Event #57: $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold’em

The country of Israel is slowly but surely making its way up in the world of poker, with a few bracelets in the WSOP Europe series last year and now good performances in Vegas as well. The Teams Event had a lot of Indian interest as well, since both our gold bracelets have come in this tournament but this time, our best result was 28th place secured by Akshay Nasa and Sajal Gupta.

Israel’s Team Geiger consisted of Ohad Geiger, Daniel Dayan and Barak Wisbrod, with Geiger initially having to jump in late on Day 2 as the other two weren’t able to make the start of play. In fact, it was Geiger’s first ever WSOP tournament too, and they managed to beat 976 teams to win the top prize of $168,395.

“This is beyond amazing. This isn’t about the money; it’s about the WSOP bracelet; it’s every poker player’s dream,” said Dayan after the win. “It’s amazing, this year is our first year at the WSOP, I’m only 23, so it’s a dream come true. We are proud to represent Israel here,” commented Wisbrod after the game.
