One of the biggest poker events happening in the Asian region is the 2019 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Taiwan. The series is underway at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP) in Taipei, Taiwan since 20th February. It will be done by 3rd March, and some tournaments are done already, like the 1st Single-Day HR, Super High Rollers, Dream Maker, Kitty Kuo Special Event, etc.
The highlight of the series is the TWD 33k Main Event which saw Day 3 in the books yesterday. The tournament attracted 523 entries in total from all three starting flights. Day 3 was played among 92 survivors from all the flights and the field eventually whittled down to the Final Table of 9.
Leading the pack is James Jagger who bagged 2,820,000 chips at the end of the day. He holds an overwhelming chip lead. Behind him are Chow Cliff and Co Chung Chuen at 2nd with 2,095,000 chips each. Li Min Jie, Day 1A chip leader, is also in the mix at 6th with 1,110,000 chips.
Chip leader Jagger has just a little over $10k in live cashes till now and all of them are from England, his home country. He is a lesser known player but having a chip lead in such a prestigious event shows what skills he is packing. He has accumulated a good chip lead on the FT and will prove to be a tough competitor. He has a decent chance of winning the tournament from here.
The day began with TWD 15,219,300 (~INR 3.51 Crores) in prize money. The bubble burst about 7 hours into the day. 2018 APT Finale SHR winner and Thai pro Phachara Wongwichit became the bubble boy, succumbing to Alan King Lun Lau’s Kings against his Ace-high after the board ran dry. From then on, players got eliminated quickly, the field whittling down to 36. USA’s Russell Thomas and Japan’s Go Mori (winner of 2019 APT Tokyo Kickoff event) fell soon after at 36th and 33rd respectively.
Lim Yohwan busted soon after at 17th. The final bust happened with Jacky Wong getting eliminated at 10th place by Cliff’s Aces beating his Kings. Some notables to fall on the day were UK’s Alex Lindop, South Korea’s SJ Kim and Hong Kong’s Sparrow Cheung.
