Israel dominates again at WSOP Europe – Event #5 update

The 2018 World Series of Poker Europe edition has been on since 9th October and the first two gold bracelet winners were both from Israel, in Tamir Segal and Asi Moshe, winning Event #1 and Event #2 respectively. Now, there’s some more Israeli dominance happening in the Monster Stack Event, with the top two chip leaders both from Israel.

Event #5: €1,100 MONSTER STACK No-Limit Hold’em kicked off a couple of days back with three days of starting flights scheduled. On Day 1A, 30 survivors bagged their chips from the original 148-entry field, and now on Day 2, 56 survivors bagged their chips. from the original field of 204 entries.

We have a lot of Indian players in attendance at the WSOP Europe in Kings Casino, Rozvadov. However, they haven’t done as well as they would’ve expected on this second starting flight, with all of Rakesh LalwaniMadhav ‘Maddy’ Gupta and Shravan Chhabria busting their stacks during the day. However, Indian-origin Chile player Sanjay Sahijwani has progressed to Day 2 of the tournament.

Joining 6-time WSOP bracelet winner Chris Ferguson who progressed from Day 1A, are more bracelet winners in Timur MargolinBertrand Grospellier and Anthony Zinno. In the chip lead is Israel’s Asher Assis who has 349,000 chips while in second place is countryman Michael Magalashvili with 325,000 chips.

Current top 10 chip counts after Day 1B:

  1. Asher Assis – 349,000
  2. Michael Magalashvili – 325,000
  3. Daniel Smiljkovic – 289,000
  4. Markus Steger – 261,500
  5. Timur Margolin – 260,000
  6. Danny Covyn – 250,000
  7. Rafi Elharar – 248,500
  8. Andrei Konopelko – 240,000
  9. Petr Svoboda – 233,000
  10. Boris Kolev – 230,000

The €500,000 guarantee seems set to be passed if we see another 150+ field taking part on Day 1C which will kick off in a few hours from now. Traditionally, the final starting flight always sees the highest attendance, so we could even see a 200+ field today.
