IOPC Jul 2016 Main Event Winner – Abhishek Jalan

India Poker Championship (IPC) Megastacks May 2022 hosted in Hotel Mechi Crown, Jhapa Nepal, was a package of all things grand. One of the things that caught our attention was players getting shoulder and back massages at frequent intervals. One such player who seemed to enjoy this service was the first-ever India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) Main Event (ME) winner Abhishek Jalan. He shipped the July 2016 IOPC ME for prize money of ₹3,78,000.

Who is Abhishek Jalan?

Let us give you a  little background on Jalan. He hails from Varanasi and is a textile businessman. This former IOPC ME champ shipped this coveted title when he was just 21-years-old. What will amaze you even more is that Jalan was pretty new in the game when this victory came along. Today, he is one of the well-known names in the Indian poker industry.

Coming back to 2016, just after the IOPC ME, Jalan crushed the inaugural 25K Rounders Poker Championship hosted in Chambers Poker Room, Kolkata. This poker dynamo’s game had just begun and was running in top gear not just in live poker but even online. Jalan became a Spartan Poker Pro in 2018. In the same year, he shipped the World Poker Tour (WPT) India Superstack event and cashed ₹17,29,000 in prize money.

AceJack

Jalan launched a poker stable in March 2017 and created a lot of buzz as it was India’s first poker stable for live players. Jalan joined hands with PokerBaazi Team Pro Vikram Kumar who was Jalan’s partner in AceJack. The stable offered coaching, and special sessions for Indian as well as international players.

Some of the first members of this stable were Shravan Chhabria, Gokul Raj, Rishabh Jain, and Kartik Ved. Along with these players poker pro Aditya Agarwal, Jayjit Ray, Vivek Singh, Ratul Steves, Ashish Munot, Mithun Mahesh, Rohit Mishra, among others, also joined the stable.

In November 2017, Jalan parted ways with AceJack, and the stable was rebranded as PokerGuru Staking. Jalan’s contributions to the industry go well beyond the game. We hope to see this champ make a smashing return to the felts (online and live) and crush titles just like old times!
