In Conversation With Ashish Ahuja, India Poker Festival May/Jun 2022 ME Winner

The recently concluded Mobile Premier League (MPL) Poker’s India Poker Festival (IPF) May/June 2022 witnessed Ashish Ahuja clinch the Main Event title for ₹17 Lakh. This win was notable given that it was the first time MPL Poker hosted a series this big and makes Ahuja the innaugral edition winner to win the prestigious IPF Main Event title. With an ₹8 Crore overall guarantee, IPF May/June 2022 was an incredible success and has set MPL Poker on its path to becoming one of the top online poker platforms in the country. Ahuja also adds another title to his ever-increasing list of wins and once again proved his fluency in the game.

The series Main Event was the cherry on top with its huge ₹1 Crore guarantee and many online regs did not miss out on getting a piece of this prize pool. With eight starting flights, the event saw a total of 1,733 entries lock horns with each other for a shot at victory. Ahuja was one of the 190 survivors who made it to Day 2 and the rest is history. We caught up with Ahuja to talk to him about his experience on the platform and of course his Main Event success.

Excerpts from the Ashish Ahuja interview…

1. Congratulations on shipping MPL Poker’s India Poker Champion’s Main Event! What are your thoughts on shipping the Main Event?

Thank you for the wishes! It is always a great feeling to win the Main Event of any special series. I’m extremely delighted to win the first-ever India Poker Festival Main Event hosted by MPL Poker.

2. How was the action on the final table? Any particular player you kept your eye on?

It was a pretty smooth sailing for me on the final table, given that I entered the final table with chip lead. I just kept putting ICM pressure on my opponents and played my best till the end.

3. What was your overall experience like on the platform?

I really enjoyed the structure of the tournament. It was well organised, and it would be even better if they launch a poker app to make it all the more player-friendly. I was mostly grinding on the series via their webpage.

4. Given that this was MPL Poker’s first-time hosting a mega-event like India Poker Festival, what did you like the most about it?

I like the fact that MPL Poker caters to players from all groups, whether they had big or small buy-ins. It was a good series in terms of value for everyone and I hope they continue to roll out events like this in the future.

5. If MPL Poker announces a similar poker tournament series on its platform, would you participate? If yes, then why.

I would definitely love to participate in any series from MPL Poker. They have an excellent tournament structure for high-value events. The only thing left for them to do is launch an exclusive MPL Poker app for players so that players can smoothly multi-table the entire series.

Looks like this is not going to be Ahuja’s last time on the platform. With an IPF Main Event win now in the bag, this lawyer-turned-poker pro will definitely return to grind more on MPL Poker. With a fast-growing ecosystem of players, MPL Poker is where players can head for some much-needed poker action.
