Highlight Stories Of 2022

The year 2022 is almost over, and as we look back at the year gone by, it’s time to reminisce about the top highlight stories of 2022 in the real-money gaming world. The year was a mix of surprises, controversies, victories, bizarre incidents and more. 2022 had its fair share of ups and downs too, but it was a good one for the poker world. With casinos and live poker events resuming full steam this year, there was a lot that happened.

Let’s look at some of the highlight stories that stood out  and are worth remembering as we step into the New Year, both from the Indian as well as the international circuit.

Spartan Poker Introduced India’s First Gaming NFTs

Online poker platform, Spartan Poker launched India’s first-ever gaming Non-fungible Token (NFTs). The NFTs were introduced for the January 2022 edition of the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC). NFTs were trending since last year and are still widely discussed,  and Spartan Poker joined the bandwagon. The NFTs were awarded to the winners of the IOPC events including Legends, High Roller, Super High Roller, Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) Highroller, Blaze, Prime events and Friday Spotlight. Shahid Kapoor is PokerBaazi’s Brand Ambassador 

PokerBaazi announced Bollywood superstar Shahid Kapoor as its brand ambassador in June 2022. The online poker brand launched a television commercial campaign with the Jab We Met actor titled, ‘You Hold The Cards.’ By getting the Udta Punjab actor on board, the brand took a step further to popularize and create awareness among the Indian population about poker. Robbie Lew – Garrett Adelstein Cheating Scandal

This scandal not making it to our list would be criminal. Clearly, the biggest controversy of the year had the who’s who of poker stepping in to share their views on the entire scandal. It all started with Garrett Adelstein accusing Robbie Lew of cheating in a high-stakes game at Hustler Casino Live. The series of incidents that followed had everyone gripped. Dan Bilzerian Got Married?

The self-proclaimed Instagram King, Dan Bilzerian created a stir by posting a picture on his Instagram. The picture looked like a wedding photo where Bilzerian was seen walking down the aisle with a mystery woman, with the caption “I finally did it!” The post had fans speculating that Bilzerian, who is known for his playboy image, had finally settled down and got married. There were speculations about who the mystery woman was and more. However, Bilzerian settled the dust on the matter by posting another post later. Check out the full story here.

Phil Ivey Signed As  WPT Ambassador

In November 2022, poker GOAT Phil Ivey was officially signed as the brand ambassador of the World Poker Tour (WPT). The poker brand  celebrated its 20th anniversary this year and decided to align the brand with talent and events that symbolize the very best in personal achievement, and who better than Ivey. UAE Allows Gaming With A Multibillion-Dollar Deal With Wynn Resort

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) took an historic decision to allow gaming in the country. UAE also announced a multibillion-dollars deal with Las Vegas-based casino giant Wynn Resorts. Gaming being allowed in the UAE was one of the biggest highlight stories of 2022 because the UAE is one of the seven Sheikhdoms that majorly follow Islam, a religion which prohibits gambling. PokerBaazi Hosts India’s Biggest Tournament 

From 30th October to 9th November 2022, PokerBaazi hosted the biggest tournament, the Greatest of All Tournaments (G.O.A.T). Hosted as a part of the platform’s eighth-anniversary celebration, the tournament had the biggest single tournament guarantee in the history of Indian poker. The tournament welcomed over 7,000 entries and finally crowned Walmart’s Associate Director of Data Sciences, Kumar Chandra Rohit as the ultimate GOAT. Know more about it here.

RummyCulture Ties Up With Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger

Online rummy platform RummyCulture tied up with Bollywood movie Liger, which was Telugu superstar Vijay Deverakonda. Liger was an action film based where Deverakonda plays a MMA fighter who battles all odds to become the ultimate champion. By associating with the film, RummyCulture celebrated the film’s never-say-die spirit. It also sought to strengthen the brand’s belief that anyone can be a champion by utilizing strategic skills, mental abilities, and will power in the game of rummy.
