‘HECTOR’ wins Mega Freeze title on Spartan

Players would be suffering from withdrawal symptoms after the cash-rich Spartan Super Series (SSS) came to an end on The Spartan Poker on the weekend. However, daily featured tournaments on Spartan still go on and one of them is the Mega Freeze tournament which is contested each Monday at 7:30pm IST.

The Mega Freeze INR 5 Lakh GTD is, as the name suggests, a freezeout tournament with a buy-in of INR 5,500. Yesterday’s tournament saw a participation of 119 entries and that was enough to beat the advertised guarantee and create a new prize pool of INR 5.95 lakh. The top 17 players from this field were eventually paid out a minimum cash of INR 9,342 and the player who emerged victorious was ‘HECTOR’, who claimed the Mega Freeze title for a prize INR 1,28,567. The tournament ended after 4 hours and 42 minutes, due to a 3-way deal made on the Final Table.

Some good poker players were in the mix, with Guneet Kwatra aka ‘guntz’ finishing 9th for around INR 14k, who won an SSS title last week and is also a past Millionaire winnerAnant Purohit aka ‘Pro’ finished 6th for around INR 34k, who has won several titles on Spartan in the past, including IOPC and SSS wins.

Finishing in second was ‘Stone1994’, who won INR 1,22,285, which was almost as much as the first-place prize, as the top two players had almost the same number of chips at the time of the deal being made. In third place was Arjanveer Chadha aka ‘instrumental’ and he took home INR 65,758.

Now Chadha has proved over time how good a poker player he can be, having won several titles on Spartan itself, along with the most recent back-to-back Daredevil tournaments that he won. Apart from these wins, he has made final tables in countless tournaments as well.

The final hand took place in Level #33, with the blinds at 4,500/9,000 – 1,125. Here, Chadha went all-in pre-flop with Jd Qc, which was called by HECTOR, who was dealt Qs Kd. Stone1994 made the smart decision of folding his hand, as the board opened 8d Ks Kh 6h Jh and HECTOR took down a big pot of 301,119 chips against Chadha, before they agreed on a deal.
