Gokul Raj wins IOPC’s SHR for over 28.1L

Some of India’s top pros got together to play under one roof last night. The Spartan Poker hosted a never seen before INR 1 Lakh buy-in tournament – IOPC #36 Super High Roller INR 70 Lakhs GTD. It took hours of grinding but eventually the crowned winner turned out to be the up and coming young talent in the Indian circuit – Gokul Raj aka ‘Super Kings’.

This tournament hosted on IOPC Day 7 attracted a total of 103 entries out of which 70 were unique players. The staggering buy-in was coughed up by this field to create a prize pool of INR 93,73,000, surpassing its original guarantee by a huge margin.

After over six and a half hours of slashing through the tough field of high stakes grinders, Gokul Raj finally shipped the IOPC tournament yesterday for a colossal amount of INR 28,11,900 for his awesome 1st place finish.

He beat Pulkit Goyal aka ‘Championplayer’ in heads-up to bag the title. Goyal had fired two bullets to secure his runner-up finish, which is a big deal in any SHR event. The tournament was so star-studded that the top 10 paid places itself saw several accomplished online grinders putting up a tough fight. Emerging victorious out of this must surely feel like conquering the highest summit.

The final hand was played at Level 30 with blinds at 30k/60k/6k (ante). Raj had Th 9s and it was enough for him to go all-in pre-flop, having a chip lead of over 4.5:1 already. Goyal made a logical call with Ks As. The board showed 6d Td 9d 3s 9h and Raj made a full house and took home the title. Goyal had to settle for the runner-up cash prize of INR 22,49,520, which looks a winning amount in itself.

The SHR champion, Raj, is staked, guided and supported by the very well-known AceJack Stable, now rebranded as PokerGuru Staking, which is headed by Kartik Ved (playing as ‘TheInternetKid’ on Spartan) and Vikram ‘Lungi’ Kumar. Ved himself was running in the SHR yesterday. Playing against his own disciple would’ve been quite exciting to watch. Ved ultimately filled the 8th position and took home INR 3,18,682 as his cash prize.

Coming back to our biggest champion yesterday, Gokul outdid his previous score by a huge margin. He recently shipped Adda52’s Godfather for upwards of INR 5.3 Lakhs, coming from winning Adda52’s Mega Suits for INR 8,61,350, both last month. Claiming a huge event like the IOPC SHR is the cherry on the cake and a perfect beginning to 2019. He’ll be looking to make the best use of his earnings and we’ll probably even get to see him winning a few more tournaments in the IOPC, which ends on 20th January.

Only top 10 places were paid in the event out of which rounding up the top 3 was Vivek Rughani aka ‘Pokerbatman27’, taking home INR 12,18,490. 2019 APT Vietnam Kickoff ME champion Abhinav Iyer aka ‘Schumi91’ came 4th for INR 8,90,435. Sahil Chutani aka ‘$lim$hady19’ and Apratim Sharma aka ‘checm@te’ finished 6th and 10th respectively.

If we name the players who were left out of the money in SHR yesterday, we’d have to make a separate article but let us list down a few so as to give an idea of how talented the field really was. Ankur Aryan aka ‘showstopper89’ fired four bullets but was unfortunately left out of the money. Akshay Nasa, Arjanveer Chadha, Ashish Ahuja, Aditya Sushant, Shravan Chhabria, Nishant Sharma, Sumit Sapra and Anirban Das were some of the top talents who were left out of the money yesterday.

This biggest IOPC event this time, the Main Event INR 1.5 Crores GTD is going to be hosted on 20th January and is expected to be a gala of some amazing poker action. Stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com for first IOPC updates and for your daily dose of poker news from around the world.
