As coronavirus continues to rise in the country, the government and health experts are taking necessary precautions to contain the spread of coronavirus. A record spike of 337 COVID-19 cases in Goa on Sunday took the infection count in the coastal state to 6,530, while the death of five people increased the toll to 53. Goa has tested 1,34,395. samples till date.
Police officials of Goa conducted two raids in Verna and Honda in relation to gambling, The officials said that they have recovered cash and also made arrests. A gambling den in Honda was raided on Saturday arresting six persons and apprehending cash worth INR 2 Lakh on site. Superintendent of Police, crime branch Shobit Saxena said that the raid was conducted by a crime branch team led by Police Inspector Dattaguru Sawant. The gambling den was busted at Honda, Valpoi where a gard gambling locally known as ‘andhar bahar’ was being played. The accused were caught red handed and have been taken into custody.
In the other case, another raid led by Police Inspector Mohan Gaude of Verna Police on a late Saturday Night at Marad, Verna. The owner of the house Cirillo Fernandez and ten other individuals were detained for gambling. The police officials seized cards and other articles along with cash worth INR 41,800 from the site. The case is being investigated as the accused were later released on bail by Verna police.
The State Government has been taking various steps to ensure the safety of the people and to contain the virus. Just recently, a gambling den in Verna was raided, arresting five persons and seized money worth INR 1 Lakh. The accused were caught red handed playing a game of chance known as flash. A month ago, Goa police conducted a raid on online gambling activities in a shop at Kolvalkar Plaza and arrested eight people in connection with the case.
