Gaurav Sood finishes runner-up in APT Vietnam PLO Event

The last 6 months has seen Gaurav Sood doing pretty well in online featured tournaments across various websites. He built a bankroll strong enough to head out on his first international trip a little over a week back. He is one among many Indians who are currently participating in the Asian Poker Tour (APT) series in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and has done pretty well so far.

While the Main Event recently concluded (won by Zhou Jiaping) and the Championships Event kicked off yesterday, there are a number of side events also taking place. Sood decided to try his hand in Event 11: VND 9,900,000 Pot Limit Omaha Hi and it turned out to be a good decision by the Indian pro.

A total of 53 entries registered and Sood did well enough to make it to heads-up but alas, he couldn’t bring home the trophy. He would’ve been the second Indian to win a trophy at the ongoing APT Vietnam after Manish Lakhotia but he couldn’t get past Japan’s Hiruma Shinosuke here.

The final hand of the PLO tournament saw both players going all-in on a 5c Ah 4h flop. Sood was behind with Qh Jh 10c 3s with a flush draw. Shinosuke’s As Kd 3h 3s put him ahead and the 2c turn and 8c river cards further helped him improve to a backdoor flush and win his first-ever APT title, to go with VND 124.32 million in prize money. As for Sood, he would have to be content with his runner-up finish and prize of VND 110 million (~INR 3.25 Lakh).
