9stacks recently got a good funding from a reputed VC firm and that money is being put to good use. They have hosted popular events on the platform like the Prime Time Leaderboard Challenge and the HNY Series, to commemorate the new year, and these have always attracted quite a number of poker enthusiasts from across the country.
Among the weekly feature tournaments on the site is Wednesday’s Wanderers INR 6 Lakhs GTD that’s one of the newer offerings on their site. Yesterday’s tournament attracted a total of 114 entries (including 33 re-buys) to the virutal felt. The tournament began at 8 pm and ended at 2.10 am today morning after gameplay which lasted for 6 hours and 10 minutes.
The buy-in for the tournament was INR 4,400, a bit on the higher side considering the guarantee. Only the top 15 players were paid out at the end of the tournament. The player to emerge on top of the field and claim the biggest cash prize of INR 1,62,000 was regular online grinder Gaurav Sood playing under ‘mozzie17’ on 9stacks.
Sood is a regular circuit player and has accumulated plenty of cashes online. Just this year saw him ship PokerStars India Super Tuesday tournament for INR 1,20,237. He has previously claimed titles just on Spartan like Mega Stack, not once but twice in recent times, first in September and then in October last year.
He has seen great success in the past on all leading platforms. His ‘mozzie17’ pseudonym is recognizable to the players who visit these online poker rooms frequently because he has made deep runs in many tournaments in recent times. This earning yesterday will prove to be of great help to him by enabling him to sign-up to more future tournaments with added bankroll.
We spoke to him after his win and he said, “This is my first win on 9stacks and it feels so good. The structure of the tournament is pretty good and I didn’t get shallow at any stage. It was a tough 3-way but I’m glad I could overcome it and register a win.“
Some of the pros to rank in the money include Neel Joshi aka ‘Worm33’ who finished 2nd for INR 1,14,000. Neeraj Kumar aka ‘SelfClaimedPro’ rounded up top 3 for INR 84k. Goonjan Mall aka ‘gmtesting’ finished 8th for INR 18k. Others include Sanjay Taneja aka ‘WereWolf’ (13th – INR 8,400) and Sam Anand aka ‘Lokimon’, who has had a great run on 9stacks so far, finished 14th for INR 8,400.
