Mobile Premier League To Enter The US Gaming Market

Indian online gaming platform, Mobile Premier League (MPL) is all set to enter the world’s largest online gaming market—the United States. 

The Indian gaming platform was launched in 2018. The firm was valued at $945 million after it raised $95 million in a Series D funding round. The three-year old startup currently has more than 75 million users in India. Last year the platform saw an exponential growth in terms of revenue and overall growth as well. 

The online gaming platform has opened a new office in New York, from where it will actively oversee the US operations. Currently, it has a team of five at the New York office. With its expansion in the US market, the platform aims at becoming a ‘super app’ that offers multiple games under a unified gaming platform.

Talking about the expansion, Sai Srinivas, co-founder and chief executive officer, MPL told Economic Times that, “The massive influx of users that we have in India enables us to build formats that might not have developed in the US because it doesn’t have the same level of user base. That’s the advantage that we have, and this is the reason why we are carrying this advantage forward.”

As per news reports, MPL will be launched on iOS and Android in the US. It will include games such as baseball and solitaire. Additionally, the app will introduce new games and formats like synchronous gaming.

Within one year of its initial launch in India, the online gaming platform had expanded to the Indonesian market. The company claims to be the leading gaming platform in the country with over 5 million registered users.

The US audience will be able to play casual games for free, along with paid contests ranging from 60 cents to $6. The service fee for hosting tournaments in the US is also said to be higher than India and Indonesia. The company is also developing a safety feature to block players from outside the US from accessing the app via private virtual networks.

MPL is based in the Indian city of Bengaluru and has its offices in New Delhi, Pune, Jakarta, Singapore and New York globally. It was co-founded by Srinivas and Shubham Malhotra. It currently has over 900 employees across the world. 

Another Indian online gaming startup, Games24x7 had also earlier announced that it was eyeing an expansion in the US market.
