The highly anticipated Free Fire World Series (FFWS) 2021 has been slated to take place on May 2021 in Singapore. The tournament will have the top 22 teams from around the world battling it out for the champion crown and the biggest chunk of the USD 2 Million prize pool. Two teams, the Galaxy Racer and Team Elite were set to represent India in this prestigious esports event.
Unfortunately, due to travel restrictions, these two Indian teams will be unable to compete in the tournament. In an announcement made by Garena Free Fire on social media, the company revealed that the two teams would be excluded from the tournament. A decision that was made after the Singapore government declared that visitors with a recent travel history to India within 14 days would not be permitted to enter the country.
Both the teams had qualified for the finals and the play-ins of FFWS 2021 due to their exceptional performance at the Free Fire India Championship 2021 Spring Finals. Team Galaxy Racer made a comeback after scoring close to 50 in the last three games of the Spring Finals.

India has seen a massive spike in coronavirus cases in the last few months alone. The rise of cases has caused the country to rank just second on the list of world’s most infected countries, right after the U.S. This could be the reason for Singapore’s strict travel ban on those coming from India.
With Galaxy Racer and Team Elite no longer a part of the tournament, there will be no Indian representation in this World Series. While the gaming and esports sector has seen a boom in the past year due to the lockdowns, this recent development also highlights the unfortunate effects of it. Hopefully, with the vaccines now being administered, deserving teams like Galaxy Racer and Team Elite will once again be able to represent India on the world stage.
