Founders of the publishing company, miHoYo, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by a man from Shanghai. The company are the publishers for the popular video game, Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact. According to reports, the man was reported to be a fan who was unhappy about the controversial content released for Honkai Impact-3rd’s Anniversary Story event.
The accused was caught while attempting to sneak into the headquarters of miHoYo in Shanghai wielding a knife. The incident reportedly took place on 24 April. Thankfully, no one was grievously hurt or injured during the incident.
As per reports, miHoYo released an exclusive anniversary event update for the global fans of Honkai Impact 3rd. However, the update was not available for the Chinese plays which angered many fans that deemed the move discriminatory and unfair. The company’s official Bilibili page was flooded with bad reviews from fans which drastically impacted the game’s ratings.
The update had added Bunny girl designs and some other rewards and was only accessible to global fans, leaving many Chinese fans upset. After the backlash, the rewards were made available to the Chinese region but have now been removed. Due to this dissatisfaction and anger over the situation, the accused planned to assassinate the founders of miHoYo.
The company subsequently released an official statement on social media apologizing to their fans. Here’s the tweet from them:
