While fans are eagerly waiting for a new map for Call of Duty: Warzone, a recently leaked photo shows that the Ural mountain map is actually from a previous game. The image of the map indicates that it was originally for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout. The UI (user interface) of the map appears to be from Blackout.
This means that the Ural mountains were initially being built for Black Ops but it didn’t make it to the final cut. The directional layout for the map was more similar to Blackout than Warzone, which is another reason why many believe the rumours were true. However, Call of Duty: Warzone may take a different approach to the Ural mountains than what was originally planned.
Released in 2018, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 had a battle royale mode called Blackout. This was a first when a game from the Call of Duty franchise had a battle royale mode. The success of Warzone was the reason for the cancellation of a sequel to Blackout stated Video Game Chronicle.
When Warzone was released, Activision was still testing waters as they were unsure of the game’s integration with Cold War. Once it was clear that Warzone was well received by the fans, they wanted to focus more on it.
The new map for Warzone has been slated for a release along with the start of Season 3. The date for the launch is 22 April, 2021. Activision will soon kick-start its marketing campaign for the brand new season in the next few days.
