Battlegrounds Mobile India: Krafton To Closely Monitor Data Transfer

Amid issues of data collection and transfer of Indian Battlegrounds Mobile India players being allegedly sent to servers in China, game publisher Krafton on Tuesday cleared the air about their data security system.

Krafton mentioned that it has been and will continue to closely monitor any data being sent to unknown or restricted IP addresses ahead of the official launch of the game. Krafton had to issue this statement amid reports that the gaming brand had been allegedly sending data of Indian players to servers in China.

As per the statement by the game publisher, “Krafton has been working extremely hard on the early access test of Battlegrounds Mobile India which offers a distinct battle royale style gaming experience and a safe environment. Our top priority has been privacy, data protection and safety.” The statement further added, “Krafton will continue to closely monitor and protect data from being transferred to unexpected IPs before the official launch.”

Krafton also added that it has been working fully to comply with Indian rules and regulations as the official launch of the game will take place very soon. The South Korean brand also emphasized that like other global games, Battlegrounds Mobile India also uses third-party solutions only for enabling gaming features.

In the process of using third-party solutions, some game data was shared with third parties. Battlegrounds Mobile India’s privacy policy states that the application may transfer some user data with the consent of the user. However, the data shared does not violate the privacy policy of the application.

As per the privacy policy of Battlegrounds Mobile India, effective from 17 June 2021, the users’ personal information will be stored and processed on servers located in India and Singapore. However, we may transfer your data to other countries or regions to operate the gaming service or meet legal requirements.

The policy further reads, “The legal basis for such processing is compliance with a legal obligation to which we are subject to or are legitimate interests, such as exercise or defense of legal claims. In the event of transfer from one country to another, the company will ensure to take steps so that users’ information receives the same level of protection as if it remained in India.”

In September 2020, PUBG and 118 other applications were banned by the Indian government stating that those apps were a threat to the sovereignty and integrity of the nation. In May 2021, Krafton said that it has been working on a new game for Indian users and on 17 June the early access of Battlegrounds Mobile India was released.
