Bangladesh Government To Ban PUBG Mobile & Free Fire?

As per a report by publication, Daily Manab Zamin, access to popular games like PlayersUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG Mobile) Mobile and Free Fire will be restricted to the gamers in Bangladesh. Previously, PUBG was temporarily banned in the country but later the ban was lifted. Free Fire recently announced that it is introducing a brand new server for Bangladesh which was scheduled to go live on 8 June. With the news of a potential ban, Bangladeshi gamers are in a state of frenzy.

The government also plans on restricting access to the aforementioned games via VPN too. Further, the obligations of the game were discussed in the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. Other than this, the Bangladesh Mobile Phone Users Association has also called for action against these two popular games due to the addictive nature and the adverse effects it has on the younger generation.

The report focused on the negative aspects of gaming and how it had fueled violent incidents. It is also believed that both these games have scaled unprecedented heights of popularity and have become a regular source of entertainment among adults and children. The report also elaborated on the sudden ban which might cause an uproar among Bangladeshi youths. Taking the uproar into consideration, the ban will be implemented in a steady manner. 

While talking about the ban, Mohiuddin Ahmed, President, Bangladesh Mobile Phone Users Association said, “While we are relentlessly working hard to get the next generation to have access to the internet, the next generation has gone astray by abusing technology.”

PUBG Mobile was banned in Pakistan, Afghanistan and a few other countries citing the same reasons. Nepal also tried banning PUBG in 2019 but it did not receive the Supreme Court’s nod to implement it.
