India has been on pause since the lockdown declared by the government in March 2020. Social distancing, quarantine and isolation have been the key components of this pandemic. Yet illegal gambling activities haven’t stopped the police from locating gambling dens throughout the country. They have been consistent in executed well organised raids catching multiple culprits red handed.
The Crime Branch of Goa police raided a gambling den in Verna, arrested five persons and seized 1 Lakh rupees from the culprits. The five persons were caught running a gambling den in South Goa. After being tipped off by some of the locals, the police investigated further and devised a plan to raid the place.
A police officer stated “The police team raided a game of chance known as flash. Five persons, including the organiser, were arrested. Apart from 1 lakh in cash, there were other gambling articles that were seized”.
A month ago, Goa police conducted a raid on online gambling activities in a shop at Kolvalkar Plaza and arrested eight people in connection with the case. According to an official release, the police seized articles worth INR 6,40,000 approximately. Ajay Karjol and his brother Akshay Karjol are the two accused who have been arrested for conducting online gambling activities while 6 others have been arrested for engaging in illegal activities, the release added.
With cases rising in the city, Goa reported a single day rise of 85 Covid-19 cases and two deaths on Sunday. Although, they saw 59 people getting discharged from hospitals, Goa still stands with 2,453 cases of coronavirus and 14 deaths in the city. With 1457 patients discharged, only 952 cases were active in the city. Over 90k samples have been taken in the city since the outbreak. The government has been taking various steps to ensure the safety of the public.
