4 gamblers arrested in Pulwama


There have been a lot of news with regards to illegal gambling activities taking place throughout the country even in this pandemic. India, with over 1.2 Lakhs coronavirus cases registered 49,310 cases on Thursday. With several arrests in the past few months, yet again, on Thursday the local police raided a gambling site arresting 4 persons in the northern district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The police were tipped off by a credible source regarding gambling offences at SIDCO in Lassipora, Pulwama. Police station Litter’s, Station House Officer (SHO), Shri Modh Hafeez Choudary headed the raid, while arresting, the officers seized INR 15,000 and playing cards from the gamblers on site. The accused will remain in custody at Litter police station for further investigation. 

A police officer stated, “A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Litter and investigation has been initiated.” He added, “Community members are requested to cooperate with police in curbing social crimes in their neighbourhood. They can share information pertaining to social crimes with police. We reassure the community members that our efforts in curbing social crimes shall continue.”

4 gamblers arrested in Pulwama

The past few months the police have been vigilant in exposing gambling dens in different states. On Monday, the Local Crime Branch raided a senior citizen’s club in Mehsana at Ahmedabad. Among the 20 individuals that were arrested included Veteran actor and former Member of the Parliament Paresh Rawal’s brother Himanshu Dahyabhai Rawal was caught gambling by the district police. 

On 20th July, 22 people were arrested at a gambling den and seized cash worth INR 15.9 Lakhs at the hotel in Gandhinagar. A gambling racket working from a lodge in Vasai near the Mumbai-Ahmedabad freeway was busted on Friday where 34 people including the gamblers were caught red handed. Those accused have been booked under violation of notifications regarding negligence during the time of severe health crisis.
