The government officials as well as other authorities have been repeating for months to follow the social distancing norm for the betterment of its citizens. Right now, Maharashtra alone stands with 458K positive cases that makes 1.91 million COVID-19 reports within a period of 4-5 months in India. Well, this didn’t stop the illegal activities from taking place. On Monday, Vikhroli police busted a gambling den in suburban Vikhroli and arrested a total of 38 people, including 4 women.
Following a tip off, a raid was conducted at the ground plus one structure in the evening. The cops seized INR 3.6 Lakhs in cash from people present at the site. These individuals belonged to Thane, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan. Later on, the Deputy Commissioner of police, Prashant Kadam said that the raid was conducted on the “specific information that the gambling is running in ground plus one structure” in Tagore Nagar area in Vikhroli East.
Later on, Kadam also added that the arrested individuals were the manager, the owner of the gambling den and staff members who were violating the social distancing rules. All 38 suspects were taken to the Vikhroli police station for registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
According to the fresh guidelines issued for the city today, lockdown rules have been updated. Under the new guidelines issued by Mumbai’s civic body, shopping malls and market complexes will be allowed to operate from 9 am to 7 pm from 5 August. However, shopping complexes will not be allowed to open theatres, and restaurants. While the BMC has now eased the lockdown in some parts of the city, social distancing rules still apply to all the locations.
