The Indian national teams’ preparations were hampered before their tour to England even began as a lot of senior players like Ravichandran Ashwin and Virat Kohli were affected by Covid-19. It will have a massive impact on the preparations for the rescheduled Test which is set to be played in Birmingham.
Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin had tested positive for the virus which saw him not travel with the team to the UK. It is learnt that Virat Kohli was also infected with Covid-19 when tested after his arrival in London. However, the former India skipper has recovered from the virus and as he was seen clicking selfies with fans in Leicester earlier this week. Times of India has quoted a source saying, “Yes, Virat Kohli was also affected by Covid after coming back from his Maldives vacation.”

The source went on to add, “This means that India’s tour game against Leicestershire on June 24 will not be as concentrated as coach Rahul Dravid had hoped, because medical advice is to avoid overloading the players after they have suffered Covid-19. There could be more Covid cases on the team.”
It is rumored that many squad players have been affected and will not be at their best, in terms of fitness. As per reports, the BCCI medical department has been in touch with Rahul Dravid advising the Indian head coach against over-working the players during their training sessions.
India is all set to play a 4-day warm up game against Leicestershire on June 24 ahead of the highly anticipated Test match. The 5th Test between India and England is a part of the Test matches the tourists played during their England visit in 2021.
The clash had to be postponed last year after many officials of the Indian team contingent tested positive COVID-19. However, the rescheduled match will finally be played in Edgbaston, from July 1 to 5. India, who currently leads the series 2-1 will be captained by Rohit Sharma this time around.
Sharma will rely on star players like Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami, to turn up the heat alongside Ravindra Jadeja. The Indian squad for the lone test match also includes key Test players such as Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari.
Following the one-off Test, India is all set to take on the Three Lions in six white-ball matches. The tourists will play a three-match T20I series against England that starts on July 7 with the second and third T20Is to set be played on July 9 and 10. England and India later square off in three One-Day Internationals matches with the scheduled for 12, 14, and 17 July.
