The Indian Premier League and the English Premier League are two of the most-watched leagues in India. The craze for football has increased a lot in India recently. While the love for cricket and IPL is obviously much more, people have started following and supporting football clubs as well, especially teams in the English Premier League. What if the worlds of IPL and EPL were to collide into one? Ever thought which IPL team would represent which Premier League team?

Mumbai Indians (MI) is a team which is most like Manchester United. MI is one of the most decorated teams in the Indian Premier League. On a similar note, Manchester United are the most decorated team in the English Premier League. While both these teams have an amazing history, they seem to be struggling recently, with Manchester United being considerably more than the Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians last won the IPL in 2020 and have not looked too convincing since. However, Mumbai Indians fans will hope that their fall won’t be as long as that of Mumbai Indians.
Chennai Super Kings have won the Indian Premier League trophy on five occasions and are arguably one of the most dominant teams in recent years. They won two of the last three IPL competitions and have managed to tie with Mumbai Indians for the highest number of IPL titles by a single team. CSK won two back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011, after which they went on a small drought.
Since 2018, however, they have won three out of the possible six titles, re-establishing their dominance in the league. Manchester City have a similar parallel, winning two trophies in the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons before going on a mini drought till the 2017-18 season. Since then, they have won five of the six titles possible, displaying their dominance in the Premier League.
Rajasthan Royals won the first-ever edition of the Indian Premier League but have failed to win the competition since then. The closest they came to winning their second title was in 2022 when they lost in the finals to Gujarat Titans. Since the Premier League started in 1992, Liverpool has managed to win just one title. This came in the 2019/20 season. Both Liverpool and Rajasthan Royals have history and good teams but not many trophies to show for it. However, both have started making a comeback recently, and it will not be too surprising if they both end up winning their respective leagues in the next couple of years.
Another parallel which can be drawn is between Harry Kane for Spurs and Virat Kohli for Royal Challengers Bangalore. They both showed incredible faith and loyalty to their respective teams and ended up as the player of the season on many occasions, but their team could not clinch the trophy. Harry Kane, however, left Spurs this year to try and find success somewhere else and with the mega auction coming up, who knows, maybe Virat Kohli will decide to do the same.

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Tottenham Hotspur are the most straightforward comparisons on this list. Both have competitive teams that can do well, but for one reason or another, they have not been able to win any trophies. Both have been trolled by fans of other franchises for their lack of trophies. Spurs reached the UEFA Champions League final, and RCB has reached the IPL final on three occasions, but neither team managed to win the title.
Kolkata Knight Riders can be equated to English Premier League side Arsenal. Kolkata Knight Rider has won two Indian Premier League titles since it started in 2008. They won both of these titles towards the starting years of the tournament. Their first title came in 2012, and the second one was just two years later. Since their success in IPL 2014, however, Kolkata Knight Riders have failed to win the IPL trophy.
The closest they came to winning was when they lost to Chennai Super Kings in the 2021 IPL final. Arsenal have had similar luck in the Premier League. Since the Premier League era started in 1992, Arsenal have won just three Premier League titles, all of which came before 2005. Since their win in the 2003-04 season, Arsenal have never won the Premier League but have managed to finish second on three different occasions.

Sunrisers Hyderabad is a team that can be compared to Leicester City. Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the Indian Premier League trophy once since the tournament started in 2008. They were founded in 2012 after Deccan Chargers were terminated, meaning they, like Leicester City, do not have as rich a history as some other clubs in their respective leagues.
Sunrisers Hyderabad won the IPL in 2016, but it looked more like a one-off win, and people questioned if they would be able to get another title. Surely enough, they have failed to win the IPL since. Leicester City won the Premier League in the 2015/16 season. Like SRH, their win was a one-off win, and after they achieved this huge accomplishment, they were simply unable to replicate the form they had in the 2015/16 Premier League season.
Kings XI Punjab can be compared to Everton when it comes to English Premier League clubs. Kings XI Punjab has never won the Indian Premier League title. The closest they came to tasting victory was when they lost in the IPL 2014 final against Kolkata Knight Riders. Everton have also never won the Premier League. They do have nine league titles but have failed to win even a single title since the Premier League started in 1992. Despite both clubs being relevant for quite some time, they have not been able to improve and still do not look like they will be able to win their respective league titles anytime soon.

Delhi Capitals and Crystal Palace are two teams which can be compared to each other. Delhi Capitals (originally called Delhi Daredevils) and Crystal Palace have both been around in their respective leagues for quite a while, but neither have been able to win the league. Delhi Capitals struggle near the bottom of the table for most seasons like Delhi Capitals do. Crystal Palace ranges between being a mid-table club and fighting for relegation most seasons but is never actually anywhere near the top. The same can be said for Delhi Capitals, which have struggled for most years and do not look like they will be winning the IPL trophy anytime soon.
Gujarat Titans is a team that was founded before IPL 2022. They have participated in just two seasons and have already won one of them and came runners-up in the second. The new team had a fresh inflow of cash and the choice to pick which three players they wanted to start the tournament with. They chose Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill. They also spent money on purchasing marquee players like Mohammad Shami, Lockie Ferguson, Rahul Tewatia, and David Miller.
These players eventually helped GT win the IPL trophy in their very first year. Chelsea can be compared to GT in this case. Chelsea has found success more recently when compared to clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool. A major part of their success is their spending through the years, just like Gujarat Titans did. They spent a lot under Roman Abramovich to get good marquee players who helped Chelsea win multiple Premier League titles.
Lucknow Super Giants can be likened to West Ham United from the English Premier League. Neither have won the league and seem to be placed somewhere in the middle of the table. While this is not a perfect comparison, it is tough to liken Premier League clubs to Lucknow Super Giants as they are a relatively new team that has never won an IPL trophy.
