Where will Virat Kohli be on 27th June 2018?

Okay then. Virat Kohli was announced as captain of the Indian T20 side for their 2-match series against Ireland before their tour of England begins. However, a few days back, Surrey Cricket also announced signing Kohli for the entire month of June, once the Indian Premier League concludes.

Having issues batting in England in the past, there was a lot of talk about Kohli doing a County stint before the tour of England begins. He was eventually signed by Surrey, and we repeat, ‘for the full month of June’. On 14th June, India host Afghanistan’s in the latter’s first ever test match, and Ajinkya Rahane will captain India in Kohli’s absence.

India then plays Ireland for a series of 2 T20Is at the Malahide Cricket Ground, on 27th and 29th June. Here is where the problem arises. Where will Kohli be on the 27th June? Captaining India at Malahide? Or playing for his new side Surrey in their 4-day match against Somerset (25th-28th) at the Kia Oval?

The Surrey website posted, saying, “Kohli will be available for all cricket throughout the month until the close of Surrey’s trip to Scarborough to face Yorkshire.” Alec Stewart, Surrey’s Director of Cricket, said, “We are thrilled to have signed the biggest name in world cricket for the month of June. Playing and training alongside Virat will be a massive benefit for our players who will have the opportunity to learn so much from him.”

With the BCCI knowing that Kohli will not be available for the month of June, how could they have named him captain of the T20 team, with clashing dates? Was it an oversight, or will they expect the captain to cut short his county stint and play in Ireland? Sorry but being in two places at once is something that even the Superman King Kohli can’t do!
